The Swarm (2023)
Lighting
The Swarm (Der Schwarm) is an 8 episode ecological thriller about the delicate interconnectedness between mankind and Earth, (IMDb).
The Swarm has been my first Episodic work. It ranges from many shots consisting of oceans, whales, ships, icebergs, seabed and so on. Working with a comparatively smaller team, more responsibilities and tasks were to be done by artists at shot level itself. This created further room to grow and learn in terms of creativity as well as technical skills.
Many situations required troubleshooting and even out-of-the-box thinking. There was also an added complexity to the lighting, due to the many layers within each shot that had to be rendered. Underwater lighting being the focus of most of the shots, teached me many new things that I would not have been able to otherwise learn.
Moveover, I had the experience of working in the Sequence Module during this show. These are some of the aspects that I worked on:
-
Created passes for all layers.
-
Creating light rigs.
-
Working with constraints with light rigs.
-
Assigned various materials to passes such as FX, Volume, Vhcl, Env.
-
Added render settings post RnD, for best and efficient output
+ Sequence level
+ Underwater lighting
+ Heavy FX
+ Crowd
