Body is a Canvas
Picture Movie
People always make their judgments in their heads about other people. They impose their impressions on us as if we were an object. Our bodies are like a canvas where people paint their judgements and opinions on us irrespective of whether we want it or not. These social and cultural norms are hurled upon us. They stain our canvas by their superficial thoughts. Physical damage is small and can be healed, it is the mental damage caused by this which is the dangerous one.
I have used the media of photography as I felt that realistic depictions and expressions would give a stronger feeling and effect. The use of black and white is to avoid distraction to surrounding colours and put focus on the stains on the main girl. Also the contrasts give a more impactful outcome. Acting is also a media used and performed by the actors mainly their postures and expressions which are of crucial importance in a film where there is no voice. Through digital editing I have create the paint stains on the body and compiled it all in a Picture Movie.
The colours imposed on her depict different types of judgements that can be thrown on us. Some of them being disrespect, guilt, discrimination and more. For example colour red is introduced first as the girl is annoyed by the remarks made on her. Red colour signifies anger. In the end her face is covered by pink which is depicting she engulfed in shame.
